Frequently Asked Questions What is the cost of tuition? Tuition is set up for a nine-month period, September through May. The total for a school year is $1800.00 for K4 through 12th grade. It can be divided into nine payments of $200.00. How does your tuition compare with other private schools? Students at FTCS who have attended other private schools paid up to $500.00 a student per month. How does the school support itself financially? The school is self-supportive. We do not have fund-raisers to keep the doors open, and we do not solicit the community for funds. Our job is to be an asset to the community. What type of discipline do you use? We do not use corporal punishment at FTCS. Since the school was established in 1983, we have never spanked a student. If we are having discipline problems, we call the parents. They are the true disciplinarians. What do you do with a student who is a discipline problem? If a student fails to obey the school's code of conduct, he or she is dismissed from the school. Our job is to educate, not to spend class time monitoring disruptive behavior. How do students of diverse religious backgrounds come together? It's actually not as difficult as one might think. Students find common ground on Jesus being Lord. Doctrinal issues are not explored. The school is here to educate in a Christian environment. The parents have the responsibility of doctrinal issues. Are you a state-funded school? We are a private Christian school. We do not receive funds from the state of New Mexico. Are your teachers certified? Our teachers are either certified or have a college background in their field of instruction. Why school uniforms? Policing fashion is not an educator's job. With less focus on clothes, a student's productivity increases in the classroom. What happens at one of your chapel services? Chapel services occur once month. A typical chapel service includes music, drama, puppets, speakers, and group activities. Parents are welcomed to attend. Do colleges and universities recognize students from Christian schools? We have a high ratio of students furthering their education at colleges and universities. Often times our students receive large scholarships to the school of their choice. Do you have organized sports? Students in 7th through 12th grades participate in volleyball, basketball, and 6-man football. We compete with several schools throughout Eastern New Mexico and West Texas. Why Christian education? We believe a child should have the opportunity for an education in a Christian environment. Why a four day week? We do not have discipline problems in the classroom. A teacher is able to instruct and not spend his or her time trying to control a classroom. Our daily productivity is increased by the well organized environment maintained by our teachers.
